About Dr Charlotte Manisty

Professor Charlotte Manisty is a Senior Lecturer at University College London and a Consultant Cardiologist at the Barts Heart Centre and University College Hospitals, London.  She specialises in heart failure and cardiac imaging, and has set up and leads the cardio-oncology service at Barts. She trained in cardiac device implantation and has current IBHRE Device accreditation, and leads the MRI imaging service for device patients at Barts and Chenies Mews Imaging Centre. She has co-written the national recommendations for MRI imaging in patients with implantable cardiac devices, and is currently performing research into optimizing scar localization in patients with ventricular arrhythmias.

She has also set up and leads the cardio-oncology service at Barts Heart Centre for the management of cancer patients who develop cardiac problems during or after their cancer treatment.  Her  research interests include improving screening for cardiac problems in cancer patients and developing automated techniques for analysis of cardiac structure and function, to improve early detection of cardiac abnormalities.  She has also completed a study commissioned by the Medicines and Health Regulatory Authority to assess the risk of cardiotoxicity related to metal-on-metal hip implants.

She receives funding for her work from British Heart Foundation, Barts Charity and the National Institute for Health Research, and supervises several PhD students.  She is author of over 60 publications and book chapters, and is regularly invited to speak both Nationally and at International conferences.
